About Spec Miata

What is Spec Miata
all about? It is the class where the cars (Mazda Miata MX-5) are relatively
affordable and (SCCA 11/2003 approved) modifications
from stock form are virtually nonexistent, except for a racing suspension and
an "equality" formula for 1.8 liter cars (restrictor plates). So
the cars are fairly equal in power, handling, and braking. And the best part is
they handle like they are on rails, almost go-kart like! The rules dictate the
minimum weight and the tire brand and size. Click

Thus the leading driver is not the one who spent $20,000 on a new race engine.
The leading driver is the one who out-brakes, out-corners and out-drives other
competitors. And that is a very appealing formula.
Objectives of Spec Miata
The
Spec Miata class is designed to provide an affordable nationwide class
in which all regions are using basically the same rules and regulations.
This allows for crossover Division to Division racing with a year end
championship event of all Divisions. Spec Miatas currently race both
sprints and enduros where available. With the overwhelming success of
the amateur Spec Miata class a New Division, Pro Spec Miata presented by
RCP Motorsports, is being developed and will allow the amateur racer to
compete in a Pro series for prize money and contingencies while keeping
a modest operating budget.
We feel that the sponsorship potential
for the individual teams combined with the tax advantages of racing for
profit will make this professional series a huge success. Soon the full
version of the New PSM Website http://www.prospecmiata.com
will be online for announcements regarding the Pro Series.
The
1990-1993 1600cc and 1994-1997 1800cc Mazda Miatas have been approved by
the SCCA for regional racing in most Divisions. The cars will be using a
Bilstein shock with an adjustable coil-over suspension with Eibach
springs and sway bars (front and rear, adjustable), steel braided brake
lines.
